Plugin to skip bad frames?

MessageAuthor

Hi I've been encoding with Gordian Knot and recently two movies I've tried to encode (Gangs of NY and Old School) have each failed to encode due to "bad frames" in the source; VDubMod just stalls on a certain frame number every time. I was wondering if there are any plugins for VDubMod that allows to drop trouble frames or skip over them completely. Thanks!

Could you supply us with a few of the frames that hang? Use VOB-splitter (from ), to cut out the vob-fragment that causes problems. Be sure to test that the sample display the problem. Also your MPEG2DEC3 version is needed.

get MPEG2Dec3v108, it make sure bad frames are still encoded. You can then use trim() to cut the bad frames or replace them.

No the sources are not .avi's...they're the .vob files ripped directly from the dvd. Its just when I tried to encode using Gordian Knot, it freezes on some frames in the movie. Now I am encoding Gangs of NY and seeing if it will encode; the bad frame was 59 and that's in the beginning of the movie so I used that VOB split and cut out that frame. I am using mpeg2dec3 version 1.0.8.0 and it still freezes on the frames. Perhaps I should try to encode the video manually with VDubMod? I dunno.

Sorry but when I tried encoding it again, it still froze on frame # 59, even tho I cut the VOB file so it wouldn't include that frame. So the encoding process is still getting stuck on the 59th frame, even though it is a different part in the movie!

What I meant was - if you cut out a few frames around frame 59, and manke them available - we might be able to fix MPEG2DEC3!

You might also try an earlier version of MPEG2DEC3. I had a similar problem recently and fixed it by using my older one at . I meant to debug and find out what the difference is but needed the disk space for the huge HDTV vobs, so I never did. But I'm worried it has something to do with the newer error checking introduced in recent releases that might hang or loop on a record sometimes. And if the older version from my site fixes the problem could you please save that vob? If the problem occurs by record 59 then it should be easier to debug if we have to transfer a short section. - Tom

RE: Plugin to skip bad frames?

I changed to the earlier version of mpeg2dec3 and still it wouldn't encode. I think this time it froze on frame 57. I was gonna post the .vob file but I dunno how I can. I tried getting a free web page but they won't allow me to post .vob files on there...any ideas of how i can post the same frames?
