Catalytic Converter query

MessageAuthor

My car has an issue with a cruise control. It engages when I drive, goes on fine, for x amount of time/km's. There-after, it looses vacume, or something. the sped drops steadily, and that's it. I took it to a mechanic, after Volvo could help me continously, and with a Bosch diagnostic machine, the conclusion is the Catalytic converter can possibly have an effect on this. My emmisions light doesn't want to stay off for a few thousand km's now, which Volvo also can't trace. My question to you Volvo diehards, is, does this make sense? Apparently, what might happen here, is that the ECU supply too much fuel, because of the wrong emmision reading, and this meses up the cruise control. True?! Thanx

Hi, The cruise control issue is more likely to be a vacuum issue - a leak in one of the pipe or rubber corner joints of the system. Have you had the codes read? What were they? Did the dealer get codes read? You can get the emission light on for, say a hole in the exhaust! Des. . . ;)

Well, the codes that was read only stated a sensor malfunction. That's it. Nothin' else. That's why I'm cheezed off 'bout volvo dealers! It does not even say anything about the cruisecontrol?! Otherwise, had problems with spark being throughn away, but I just refitted the coils to 3 and 4, and it was sorted. Volvo couln't read that either! Any other ideas!? Could there be a obvious place to leak on the vacuum pipes? I had a look, but the pipe dissapears into the cluster, so I couldn't follow it!

Hi, Check the plastic pipes that run in the engine bay and check the rubber connectors that connect one to the next and the pipes to engine components. One or more are bound to be worn and leaking, so check their condition. Des. . . ;)
