Microsoft Silverlight

MessageAuthor

Has anyone here had a play with this new technology yet? I have just been given VS2008 that has this incorporated into it. Wondering what people thought of it before playing with it.

RE: Microsoft Silverlight

Tech wise MS does everything .NET related right, there will be a dynamic VB version that can probably be used to script desktop applications too, the designer Blend looks also very cool. I doubt however Silverlight will be a very successful for political reasons and I don't care much since I'm not into web tech. What's currently used seem to work good enough and with the competition of Silverlight will now probably improve much faster.

Where Silverlight wins is (finally) making WMV9 / VC-1 multi-platform in browsers, something which has been missing for a while.

the only thing I see silverlight doing is pushing adobe to actually make some improvements, which I doubt will happen anyways has adobe ever made anything with decent speeds?

RE: Microsoft Silverlight

hehe hey but they allready improved the rendering speed and CPU utilization and if H.264 hardware accelleration comes soon their up to Silverlight then (Video wise). Tough i must have to say i like Silverlight more, because it's newer and still faster :D and Linux support is there through Moonlight, now if H.264 support comes i would prefer it 100% over Adobes Flash ;)

Siverlight is completely based on OPEN standarts (like CLR/XML/WPF) - it's main!
